Katherine Wilkinson | Lessons Learned

Hello! I have another layout here today documenting the not so happy moments of our lives. I've been having a hard time these past few months and I really don't want to forget them. I know we love to look back on photos and remember the good times. But honestly I feel that, that's not real life. Real life is messy, its fun, and heart wrenching for the most part, but that's how you grow and if we didn't continue to learn from these moments we would never grow.

As a mom, I'm always learning, my kids are always challenging me to be better. This may have been a tough day for me, but I learned so much about myself this day.

Hi I’m Katherine! I live in Edmonton, AB, Canada with my husband Brett, our two crazy daughters, Dylan and Olivia, and our dog, Dax. I work full time doing the accounting for a small business.

When I’m not working or chasing around the girls, I’m usually scrapping. My favorite form of memory keeping is Project Life. I started it in 2011 and never looked back. Though my style has changed over the years, I think I've  finally found a rhythm and style that I love.

I love good food, coffee, chocolate, Harry Potter, pretty packages, trivia games, anything DIY and I especially love that my city has all four seasons.

True Story | Katherine Wilkinson

Hello friends! Katherine here with a hybrid layout for you! I'm so thrilled with the new kit, and I had so many ideas for it.

One of which was incorporating some hidden journalling. I knew exactly what photo I wanted to use for this type of layout. Basically by noon I was already done with the day and so I decided I needed a shower and I wanted to put this shirt on. I've never really felt "fat" with any of my pregnancies but this day in particular I felt gross. It was hot, the kids were driving me crazy, my back was sore and I was already on day 4 of dry shampoo. You know one of those days. This is great for more personal, emotional journalling in the other journal cards. The layout seems light hearted when just looked at in general, but I needed to get some self confidence stuff written down that I don't want everyone to read.

I really love how this turned out and I hope this encourages you to add some more journalling in your layouts by way of hidden elements.

Katherine Wilkinson │ Grateful Mini Album & Publisher's Picks 50% Off Three Days Only

Hey All, I just wanted to share my Thanksgiving mini album with you! In Canada we celebrated Thanksgiving in October, but lucky for you I’m a procrastinator and am able to post this album just in time for the American Thanksgiving, and give you all some inspiration for your next mini album!

I made these layouts using the 4x4 templates, using all digital elements from GratefulAusten and Crisp collections, as well as items in my stash.

I plan on printing these on my computer at home but you can also send them to persnickety prints or any online printing companies.

Katherine Wilkinson │ Documenting Not-So-Happy Stories

I challenged myself this week to scrap a photo that didn’t have a direct subject. What I wanted to accomplish was to tell more of a story with my scrapbooking layouts. I feel like I have all my day to day stories captured in my project life albums, and I generally have a good/funny story to tell on most of my 12x12 or 8 ½ x 11 layouts. But life isn’t about rainbows and butterflies all the time. So I decided to challenge myself with a few layouts telling more of the story.

This photo was taken the day after my husband’s Grandma’s funeral. There was a lot of tension, a lot of tears, and a roller coaster of emotions. I’m not one to journal in my layouts but I decided to open up more so that those reading these stories down the line can have an understanding what our family was like. I did write up a longer story which I’m including behind this layout once I print it out and put it in the album.
How do you scrap your-not-so-happy stories?

I loved this layout and wanted to recreate it using Little Lamm & Co. Papers. This photo shoot was taken by my friend Carla. I basically text her one day about the general idea for a shoot and she was like, let’s do it! I love that I have friends who are up for anything on a moment’s notice!

Katherine Wilkinson │ Captured

Hello! I’m so excited to be sharing here today! I was so happy to play with the capture line because of the pinks, yellows and the black and white. However I found myself gravitating to the blues when I started playing. I have two girls and most of my layouts are really, REALLY girlie!

I love taking candid photos, they end up being my very favorite. I took these photos for my project life album to capture our everyday, and the very rare occasions.

As I’m learning to create digital layouts I find that hybrid is definitely my absolute favorite way to scrap! I still get that tactile feel, but the ideas are endless with digital files! I’ve created a process video for this layout so I hope you enjoy.
